5 steps to prevent fraud


1. Check the authenticity features on the credit card

  • the logo can be situated on several locations on the card, horizontally as well as vertically.
  • the letter “V” appears on a Visa Card under UV-light
  • when you move a MasterCard the picture in the hologram changes. (MasterCard globes)
  • in general the card number begins with the number 5 for MasterCard and a 4 for Visa
  • the expiration date
  • the card number consists of 13, 16, 18 or 19 digits
  • the card holder’s name.

 

 2. Check the signature and the expiration date of the credit card

  • the signature
  • the security code or CVC2 (MasterCard), CVV2 (Visa)  

  • the magnetic strip

 


3. Check whether the card number corresponds to the number on the transaction slip.


4. What to do when the credit card or the behaviour of the customer arouses suspicion.

  • Your and your staff’s safety always comes first
  • Hold on to the credit card.
  • Ask for identification when in doubt about the credit card and/or the customer.

 

5. When still in doubt, call the authorisation desk for a “code 10”-conversation

  • Tell the staff member that you are making a “code 10” call.
  • The staff member will guide you through the conversation in a professional way and with respect for your situation. He/she will advise you on further steps.
  • Answer the questions in a normal voice with “yes” or “no”
