The Dennis van de Zeijden foundation is a non-profit organization, focused on motivating and improving the lives of amputees through sport. The Foundation was established by Dennis van der Zeijden.

Dennis’ story is truly inspirational. Always a keen sportsman, he underwent a life-changing event two years ago when his right leg was amputated through the knee. During his rehabilitation, Dennis fount inspiration through sport, realizing the pivotal role this had played in his recovery. After which he established the Foundation in order to motivate and improve the lives of other amputees.

“I have always been passionate about sport and was active at a competitive level. But then in June 2007, due to a tumour, my right leg was amputated through the knee. As you can imagine this was a very traumatic time for me. I then received my first prosthesis, and during my recovery I tried as many different sports as I could- many that I never thought I would have been able to do” .

“I quickly realized how sport enhanced self-confidence and motivation, not only at a personal level, but also amongst my friends and other amputees. This was really the impetus for setting up the Foundation.”

The objective of the Foundation is to raise funds to help other amputees to realize their sporting goals. The foundation organizes and supports sport events that focus on increasing the mobility of amputees and help them to push personal boundaries through sport.

Currently the Foundation is concentrating its efforts in the local area. However, in the future, Dennis has the ambition to expand into additional countries. Besides this goal, Dennis has set up a personal goal as well: to be able to compete during Paralympics 2016 with the Dutch Gulf team.
