PRESS RELEASE
EMS card and CCV smashing Bancontact/MisterCash monopoly in Belgium
Diemen 10 februari 2010 – EMS card and CCV, market leaders in the Benelux in the field of electronic payment solutions, are launching a cheap and transparent alternative, which involves payment of a fixed amount per debit transaction. Good news for independent businesses and retailers since this signals the end of the Bancontact / MisterCash monopoly in Belgium which has persisted for many years.
This new service from EMS card and CCV is set to shake up the Belgian payments market. Currently each merchant or independent business pays a fixed amount per transaction as well as a fixed subscription cost. This is all about to change because CCV and EMS Card have joined forces to provide electronic payment and transaction services. The major benefit is that the retailer only pays a fixed cost per debit transaction in line with their own specific requirements and number of transactions. In other words, CCV will not levy any additional subscription costs. “This is excellent news for all merchants with an electronic point-of-sale terminal. They will be able to save an estimated 5 to 10 euros per month. Our work methods are very transparent, reliable and flexible,” according to Dimitri Beck, CEO of CCV Belgium.
EMS Card, a joint venture between International Card Services and First Data, a leading international card transaction processer, will not process the bank cards via Bancontact/MisterCash but as Maestro. In 2009, there were around 1.23 billion transactions in Belgium, a 4.5% rise on the previous year. More and more people are convinced of the benefits of electronic payments. But for all independent businesses or professionals too, smashing the Bancontact / MisterCash monopoly is an excellent thing. Most merchants who already have a point-of-sale terminal can in principle enter into partnership with EMS card and CCV for transaction processing at a fixed price. But those retailers or professionals, in particular, who do not yet offer an electronic payment system and wish to do so at an acceptable price, find the ideal solution with EMS card and CCV. “Together with EMS Card we guarantee a cheaper and secure transaction. Our aim is to arrange for our flexible offering to work on every payment terminal as quickly as possible,” explains Dimitri Beck, CEO of CCV Belgium.
